Sermon #31 The Tree and Its Fruit

Today we continue our series on “Matthew: The Coming of the King.”

    I.     Watch out for false teaching by watching for fruit. 

A.    What?

1)     Identity

“Beware of false prophets” (v. 15).

2)     Command

“Beware” (v. 15).

3)     Description

“Who come to you in sleep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (v. 15).

B.    How?

1)     Principle

“You will recognize them by their fruits” (V. 16a).

2)     Illustration

“Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit” (vv. 16b-17).

“A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit” (v. 18).

C.    Why?

1.     Warning

“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire” (v. 19).

D.    Not watch out by watch for

    II.     Thank God that he enables us to bear good fruit.
