Sermon # 30 The Narrow Gate

Today we continue our series on “Matthew: The Coming of the King.”

    I.     We are tempted to take the wide gate and easy way. 

A.    The teaching

1)     Wide gate

“For the gate is wide” (v. 13).

2)     Easy way

“And the way easy…those who enter by it are many” (v. 13).

3)     Destruction end

“That leads to destruction” (v. 13).

B.    Our temptation

1)     We naturally want the wide gate and easy way.

    II.     God’s graciously offers the life –giving gate and way.

A.    God’s graciously offers the life-giving gate.

1)     Command

Enter” (v, 13).

2)     Care

“By the narrow gate” (v. 13a).

“For the gate is narrow” (v. 14).

3)     Constriction

Narrow” (v. 14).

B.    God’s graciously offers the life-giving way.

1)     Daily journey

       “The way” (v. 14).

       “Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (v. 12)

2)     Difficult journey

“The way is hard” (v. 14).

 

3)     Divine journey

“Leads to life, and those who find it are few” (v.14).
